Capers in Cambridge

Classic Cambridge- punts on the River Cam. But today was cold and showery, hence most are parked up.

But there's still lots to appreciate, like St John's College.

I managed to crop out the young Asian couple with the Selfie Stick.

There's a blend of new and old architecture....

...from a range of centuries and styles.

Spring is in the air...

...and there's time for tea, at Harriet's.

Tea for two.

MORE flowers...a cat, and a badger.

Off to the park again. How not to, with time available and the equivalent of King's Park on ones doorstep?

More flowers......but they're so beautiful.

This cat did not know me. But it seemed to want to.

Really, who designs these things!

The bumblebee is a bit out of focus. They shouldn't move so much.

This new purple growth turns out to be leaves of the flower below, which I think is the common Cow Parsley.

The Park had activities for kids, bug watching and wildflower painting, along with a badger.

It All Started with the Fox...

Our back fence has a convenient fox sized gap in it, and while we were seated on our new " Op-Shop" couch, gazing outwards, the fox slipped into the garden for a glance around.

This is Not our fox, as she didn't hang around for me to find the camera. Though it Might be.....

Thismorning was cold and rainy, so I went for a walk to the parkland. On the way I saw....a grevillea!

The way there has an overpass across the busy road and is mostly through tree-lined paths. You'd hardly know houses were there, but they are, tucked behind the trees.

And the houses are much less attractive than the trees. They are uniform, bare, ultilitarian, even in the more expensive area adjoining the park.

The Park's Railway Station was used in the James Bond film "Octopussy" , and several things since.

There's also a small version children can ride on. The lovely man who was looking after it today spent some time living in Duncraig in Perth, back in 1982.

Then back home for a cup of hot tea. Was it coincidence or fate that led me to choose Fox wrapping paper for David's birthday present, hours before our fox appeared?

Strolling on Sunday Morning

From our house we can easily walk to Ferry Meadows ( I keep wanting to say Fairy Meadows..). There are abundant green areas to walk around. Miles and miles. Plus it all links in to the national Green Wheel Bikeways Network,

It all joins up with the canal and the River Nene.

You can rent these little canal side cottages by the lock.

Or perhaps stroll through the woods and enjoy the wildflowers.

Or hang out with a gaggle of geese.

Haart amd Home in Orton Brimbles, Peterborough

Look, our very own "To Let" sign.
Ours in the middle terrace of three. It's light and airy inside. There are dormer windows at the back.
We have our own Art Installation
,......and our own Dunny. David is about to be disappointed when he discovers it's a garden shed! Beyond those trees is a Primary School and a bus route. Buses come every 10 minutes, though not always on time.
We unpacked David's pet Anaconda
Oh look, another piece of modern design: better keep it clean in case a Museum wants it one day.

Moving and Mosaics

The lull in postings was the result of a very busy long weekend socialising and setting up house. We were lucky to find a small place close to transport, shops and parks. There is a Primary School through the trees at the back, and some construction going on next to that, so I feel right at home! Peterborough is apparently the fastest growing place in the UK, so there is not an excess of accommodation.

Not much to post about the house, but today I was priviliged to visit a Mosaic and Textile artist who has her studio(s) at home. And would you believe it: she used to be a Social Worker. Her name is Kay Hall and she preparing work for the Peterborough Open Studios event in July.

My photos were taken with the iPad and don't really do justice to the vibrancy of her pieces.

First the machine-embroidered pictures.

...and a couple of mosaics

Doesn't that just make you want to rush home and start MAKING stuff!! Grace, I hope Leon and the boys are building you a nice Studio, now you're an exhibiting artist.

The Cathedral Close , Culture and Cars

Here's an electric car plugged in for recharging just outside one of the gateways into the Cathedral Keep.

Would you need to come back in fewer than four hours, I wonder??

Inside the Stone gateway was a lovely old building oddly called the Chauffeur's Cottage, recently home to an Arts organisation that coordinates and encourages grass-roots arts. In their courtyard was a fabulous garden with laser cut 44 gal drums made into pot planters. It won a prize at the Hampton Court Garden Show. I'll take photos of it another day. There's plenty happening on terms of music and plays, like any city of 186,000.

Before locating Chauffeur's Cottage I found a fabulous relaxed cafe filled with prints, spread over two floors. Two very Church of England men of the Cloth were having tea, so I asked them for directions to the Cathedral Close.
